In autumn 2023, Mad House Helsinki will open a new black box stage for performing and live arts in Tekstintalo, Sörnäinen. The new venue creates a much-needed space for the performing artist and the audience in the capital region. We warmly welcome everyone to the autumn performances!

For the fall programme, Mad House has invited artists and projects that approach stage and performance in different ways. The artworks are set in public spaces and online alongside the stage. Maija Mustonen is responsible for curating the stage and public space, and Anne Naukkarinen will curate the online publication from 2023-2025. Mad House's programme is created in a dialogue between the curators and various partners.

In September,Maija Linturi's work Rat City will kick off a new, annually recurring collaboration with the Live Art and Performance Studies master's program at the University of the Arts Helsinki.Rat City will take place in a public space near the old Myllypuro landfill.

Mad House’s new stage will host the first performances at the beginning of October through Hunajajyvä's multidisciplinary art event, which will spread throughout the night. Hunajanyjvä is a curatorial entity founded by Sadet Hirsimäki and Eero Pulkkinen, which started in Eura, in the village of Kauttua. In mid-October, a new solo piece Petrolio by performance poet and novelist Niko Hallikainen will have its premiere. Petrolio deals with different forms of the energy crisis.

In November, Helsinki has a vibrant selection of performing arts, and Mad House brings programmes and audiences together through two international festival collaborations. Poet in my - my life as Fabou by Ella Skoikka and the working group is a creation placed in the middle ground between a concert and a dance performance, which is presented in cooperation with the festival Moving in November. Towards the end of the month, the video screening showroom, curated by Remi Vesala, will open
collaboration with the Baltic Circle festival. Mad House's stage will also be visited by works from both festivals that will be announced later in the fall.

The performance Kirjastoesseet#2" Portaikkoja ajatellaan kovin harvoin" by Pilvi Porkola and the working group will premiere in December. The work is an essay-like, poetic performance about death and what remains of us. The last premiere of the autumn season, Freja Bäckman's performance installation and concert is created in collaboration with Tari Doris and continues Bäckman's body of work I was told I chop wood like a ballet dancer.

Poet and performer Elsa Tölli works as the first online artist-in-residence in the history of Mad House. Tölli is creating a piece for the fourth issue of Mad House Helsinki Publication, which will be published in December. The online publication also includes works from the artists of the autumn stage programme Hunajajyvä, Pilvi Porkola and Freja Bäckman.

Along with Mad House Helsinki's main programme, there are workshops, discussions and parties, which we will tell you more about later in the fall. Performance-specific information and show times will be published in August. Ticket sales will open in the fall at a later date.
