Workshop: Live Art and Performing

The Live Art and Performing Workshop introduces participants to live and performance art and encourages them to make performance tryouts. Through various bodily exercises and relaxed performance experiments, we examine what performance art is and can be. The focus is on the participants' own interests and curiosities towards performing and live art.

Participation does not require previous performing experience or professionalism in the arts. The workshop is suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds. With the assistance of the bodily exercises we ponder over the viewing from the perspective of both the performer and the audience. In addition, we examine how the framework of the performance affects the reading of everyday actions.

In addition to bodily exercises and performance experiments, the workshop include watching video material such as excerpts of live and performance art works, and participating in the Zeynab Kirikou Gueye & Lau Lukkarila's Hold yr ache 2 my ache performance. The performance acts as an initiation for the workshop. As a participant, you will receive a pre-exercise by email, through which you are invited to reflect your own observations in relation to the performance.

The workshop will be led by choreographer, performance and visual artist Lin Da (aka Lin Martikainen).

Lin Da (he, hen, they) is a Helsinki-based artist whose work focuses on the observation of life's ecologies, touch and the encounter with a sense of incompleteness. Lin explores the relationships between things and their intimacy in the interactions between human bodies and more-than-humans in different environments. His work takes many forms, from installations to dance performances and from audio works to sculptures. Choreographic thinking serves as the weave that unites the works.
