echo exhibit

Asiya Wadud

The echo exhibit is a one-to-one conversation between a poet Asiya Wadud and a participant. It will take place alongside Howard Smith's environmental artwork "Liikkumattomia tanssijoita" in Arabia, Helsinki. After each conversation, Wadud will write a poem drawn from the encounter. These poems will be published Mad House Publication Vol. 5 in December 2024.

Asiya Wadud is a writer who divides her time between New York and Helsinki. She is interested in the borders and edges of language and landscape. She explores ways of approaching what she sees, feels and senses through questions rather than answers. She wants to know about spaces where language is refracted and where gaps are not filled.

Wadud's most recent works include No Knowledge Is Complete Until It Passes Through My Body and Mandible Wishbone Solvent. Wadud is also an occasional performer and has appeared in Okwui Okpokwasil's Sitting On a Man's Head at Danspace Project in New York. Wadud's work has been supported by several cultural institutions including Foundation Jan Michalski, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Danspace Project, the Finnish Cultural Institute of New York, Rosendal Theater in Norway, Beirut Arts Center and Kunstenfestivaldesarts.

This project was supported, in part, by a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant
