Mad House 10th anniversary and Publication volume 5 launch party!
Welcome to celebrate ten years of Mad House Helsinki and Mad House Publication Vol. 5 at the Permantosal of Tekstin Talo on Friday 13.12.2024 from 18.00!
Note! A more detailed programme for the evening will be published closer to the event.
Mad House Publication is an online art space. Founded in 2020, Publication is an artist-driven platform that combines text, drawing, sound, video, photography and programming. The platform offers artists the opportunity to explore the online space as a place to present their work. The first issue was published in the shadow of the corona pandemic, and since then Publication has evolved into an experimental art experience.
In the fifth issue, we get to take part in Olga Spyropoulou's Collectors of Memories - an online memory game. The participatory memory game trains participants to become official memory keepers of Mad House Helsinki, using Mad House's online archive from 2014-2024. The work celebrates Mad House's ten-year history as an enabler of the performing arts.
Rusto Myllylahti's Snow Returns is a continuation of Myllylahti's Elatu Nessa' s homemade music and improvisational piano moments in various locations. Snow Returns combines a repeatedly playing piano track, an audio background and a single image.
Vappu Jalonen's AU: Chapter 2 is a textual melodrama that explores the meanings of knowledge, rhythm, the 1990s and the healthcare system. It continues AU: Chapter 1, published in 2021, which can also be experienced in this issue.
In the first part of poet Asiya Wadud's two-part work echo exhibit, Wadud discussed Howard Smith's environmental artwork Non-moving Dancers with eight people in the Helsinki Arabia. After each conversation, Wadud wrote a poem inspired by the encounter, which the participants could edit afterwards if they wished. These poems can now be read in this issue.
The Publication team includes programmer Heikki Lotvonen, graphic designers Kiia Beilinson and Hanna Valle and curator Anne Naukkarinen.
