In February, showroom #2: hot minds curated by Remi Vesala will open the spring season. This event, held at Mad House for the second time, explores themes of desire, challenge and critical embodied thinking. showroom #2: hot minds experiments with moving images and presence, with content that sometimes seeps over the boundaries of the screen. shohwroom #1 took place on Mad House's stage in the fall of 2023 as a collaboration between Mad House and Baltic Circle.
Club Grief is a club night at the end of February for all bereaved people and their friends: "There is little room for tears on the dance floor, but with Club Grief we aim to change that." Julia Fidder's Club Grief is part of Dear Society, a grief circle held every two months dedicated to creating a continuous space for grief and mourners in today's world.
Laura the Light & Co.'s Star Children of the World will visit our stage in March. The piece is at the same time a B-class comedy, a spa for souls, and a church of the new era. It is a show that contains a crazy mix of five mini-performances in a grand spectacle that embodies the blockages of existence and cosmic possibilities. the performance premiered at the Contemporary Art Space Kutomo in November 2024.
In the spring, we will continue our collaboration with the Theatre Academyäs Live Art and Performance Studied program with Paria Moharejan's thesis work, Blurring the Boundaries: stories on a revolution. In this participatory performance, the audience joins the game, making choices and rewriting the past and historical narratives.
In April, the stage will host #digiteatteri's Nopeemmin, helpommin (Eng. Faster, Easier). This performance is the third part of #digiteatteri's multi-year QueerAI series, the first part was presented at Mad House in 2019. The play, written by Milka Luhtaniemi, consists of text that is partially generated by artificial intelligence. The technology-critical, escapist and dreamlike queer play explores connection between two people, forgetting and glitches.
In early May, Atte Kantonen' s event bugbath: questing invites people to gather around experimental music and sound performances. The evening will approach music as landscape, narrative and associative, fleeting experience. bugbath happened for the first time as part of Mad House's program in spring of 2023.
At the end of May, Anachronism, Schizophrenia, and the Speed of Light and Sound by Vishnu Vardhani Rajani, Shiva Amir, Kacii Eleven and Zwoisy Mears Clarke. The performance explores the multiple experiences and temporal discontinuities of reality and addresses the interplay of fears, identities and neurodiversities in the context of performance. It is set in real and speculative spaces such as outer space and mines, using schizophrenia as its methodology. The work has been selected through an open call for the 2025 joint programme of the Reality Research Centre and Mad House Helsinki.
You will find more information about the performances on our website at the beginning of the year.
